Trump’s “Made In America Week” kicks off today, and if his previous named weeks are any example, it will turn out to be an unmitigated disaster.
The president, who manufactures most of his products overseas, gave one of his rambling speeches to celebrate the inane event. It’s a classic Trump tactic, give lip service to something while simultaneously, personally undermining it.
His companies manufacture shirts, ties, and numerous accessories everywhere from India to Vietnam. The exploitation of foreign labor seems to be a family tradition since Ivanka Trump infamously manufactures her clothing line in Chinese sweatshops. The Trumps don’t actually care about bolstering the U.S. workforce, but they realize pretending to care is a powerful campaign tool. At the end of the day, all that matters to them is profit.
Unable to resist pointing out the staggering irony, MSNBC trolled Trump during his speech by inserting an editorialized chyron:

News agencies have struggled to deal with Trump’s unprecedented mendacity. Either they let his lies go unanswered, in which case they’re complicit in the spreading of misinformation, or otherwise they call out the dishonesty and risk appearing partisan. The mere fact that the truth itself has become a party issue shows how badly Trump has damaged the American public discourse.
