Last week it was revealed that Trump is under investigation for obstruction of justice related to his request that then-FBI Director James Comey abandon the probe into disgraced former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn and his Russia connections. The report was a refutation of Trump’s repeated claims over the past few months that he isn’t under investigation.
In light of the revelation, Trump took to Twitter to whine about the investigation:
I am being investigated for firing the FBI Director by the man who told me to fire the FBI Director! Witch Hunt

Yesterday, one of Trump’s lawyers went on television to insist the president isn’t under investigation, in direct contradiction of Trump’s tweet.
Now, Kellyanne Conway – Trump’s most dishonest surrogate – has come forward with one of her absurd, alternative-facts explanations. Conway claims Trump was “being ironic” with his tweet about the investigation.
“And that’s the President in his 140 characters, through his significant social media platform, Ainsley, telling everybody, ‘wow, look at the irony here.’”
Conway is well-practiced at providing mendacious, retroactive explanations for Trump’s behavior. This is just another example of her lying to protect the president. Trump wasn’t being ironic, just impulsive as usual.
