CNN Just Lost Their Patience With Trump & Spicer For Stonewalling The Press

After White House press secretary Sean Spicer barred recording video or audio footage at today’s press briefing, CNN’s White House reporter Jim Acosta reached his breaking point.

“The White House press secretary is getting to a point where he’s just kind of useless. If they’re getting to this point where he’s not going to answer questions or go on camera or have audio, why are we even having these briefings or gaggles in the first place?”

“It just feels like we’re slowly but surely being dragged into what is a new normal in this country where the President of the United States is allowed to insulate himself from answering hard questions.”

Acosta had attempted to ask Spicer questions at the briefing, but was duly ignored. The press secretary did, however, take questions from a Russian reporter.

The White House has grown increasingly restrictive with the press, frequently prohibiting any audio or video recordings of meetings, refusing to take questions, and having Cabinet members speak only on specific topics. Even Spicer’s own presence at the briefings is often uncertain, with deputy press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders often replacing him.

Of course, after having referred to the media as the “opposition party” and the “enemy,” this White House’s actions pertaining to the press, while cowardly, are not entirely unexpected.

When Spicer was confronted about the restrictions, he referred the media to Trump’s impending comments with the Panamanian president and then later at a technology council meeting.

“There are days where we decide that the president’s voice should be the one who speaks for the administration,” Spicer said.

This administration’s decision to effectively stonewall the media is doing them no favors in terms of both public opinion and legal matters, both of which have become a huge liability for the White House. Trump may hope to discourage the media with his restrictive measures, but thankfully, they show no signs of letting up anytime soon.
